Lonesome Tavern Man

This page describes our newest album, Lonesome Tavern Man, recorded in 2004.

Recording Of The Album:

Many of the songs on Lonesome Tavern Man had been written in the summer of 2003, but recording of the album was delayed until spring of 2004 because of a move. Freebore's recording studio had to be set up at a new house. It took awhile, and during this time, Steve kept writing new material.

In the late winter and early spring of 2004, recording finally began. It took place in the home recording studio set up and operated by Steve. The studio features a 24-track hard disk recorder and a 32 channel mixing console. Recording, for Freebore, usually starts with Steve and Mike laying down the basic tracks, Mike on drums and Steve on rhythm guitar. Once they have a good take, Steve overlays the basic tracks with some combination of bass guitar, lead guitar, keyboard, and vocals. Recording and mixing on Lonesome Tavern Man was finally finished by summer of 2004.

What's It Like?

In keeping with the mood set by the title track, Lonesome Tavern Man, many of these songs are suitable accompaniment to crying in your beer. There are, of course, upbeat, optimistic songs on the album as well. These include songs like My Only Love, a song about changes for the better, and Clear The Road, a song about love that waits at the end of a long road.

As for the rest, well, you'll have to see what they mean to you. To see the track listing (along with some music you can listen to online), go to the Music Room.

Important Notices:

To ease concerns over our recording policy, we wish to assert that no dumb, helpless animals were hurt during the recording or production phase except, of course, for the band members. Because we believe in being open and honest, here's a list of things that were hurt:

  1. Domestic beer supply
  2. Rear tires
  3. Steve's toe
  4. Several medium picks
  5. Somebody's feelings
  6. Steve's toe again
