The Trinity

and the

Works of God

The works of God are ascribed to each of the Three.

Creation of the Universe

The Father:

"Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands." -- Psalm 102:25 (but compare with Hebrews 1:8-10, where this is attributed to the Son)

The Son:

"For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist." -- Colossians 1:16

The Holy Spirit:

"And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters." -- Genesis 1:2

"By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent." -- Job 26:13

Creation of Man

The Father:

"And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." -- Genesis 2:7

The Son:

"For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist." -- Colossians 1:16

The Holy Spirit:

"The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life." -- Job 33:4

The Death of Christ

The Father:

"My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death." -- Psalm 22:15

"He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" -- Romans 8:32

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." -- John 3:16

The Son:

"No man taketh it away from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father." -- John 10:18

"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." -- Galatians 2:20

The Holy Spirit:

"How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" -- Hebrews 9:14

The Resurrection of Christ

The Father:

"Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that he should be holden of it." -- Acts 2:24

The Son:

"No man taketh it away from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father." -- John 10:18

The Holy Spirit:

"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but quickened by the Spirit" -- I Peter 3:18

The Resurrection of All Mankind

The Father:

"For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them, even so the Son quickeneth whom he will." -- John 5:21

The Son:

"For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them, even so the Son quickeneth whom he will." -- John 5:21

The Holy Spirit:

"But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you." -- Romans 8:11

The Inspiration of the Scriptures

The Father:

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." -- II Timothy 3:16

The Son:

"Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you, Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ who was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow." -- I Peter 1:10,11

The Holy Spirit:

"For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." -- II Peter 1:21

The Minister's Authority

The Father:

Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life." -- II Corinthians 3:5,6

The Son:

"And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry." -- I Timothy 1:12

The Holy Spirit:

"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." -- Acts 20:28 (note that this verse also shows the unity of Christ and the Holy Spirit)

The Indwelling Presence

The Father:

"One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." -- Ephesians 4:6

The Son:

"To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." -- Colossians 1:27

The Holy Spirit:

"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" -- I Corinthians 6:19

The Work of Sanctification

The Father:

"Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called" -- Jude 1:1

The Son:

"For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren" -- Hebrews 2:11

The Holy Spirit:

"And such were some of you; but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." -- I Corinthians 6:11

The Believer's Safekeeping

The Father:

"My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand." -- John 10:29

The Son:

"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." -- John 10:28

"Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us." -- Romans 8:34

The Holy Spirit:

"And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption." -- Ephesians 4:30
